Blooming Marvellous Pledge for Nature

We have taken the pledge to help nature and our environment. We already have many items in place to help our natural environment, from feeders & bird boxes to solar panels & reedbeds.
This year we will be putting our focus on a pollinator patch to help our hard working bees, birds and butterflies.
What we have in place already:
- Bird Boxes & Feeders
- Hedgerows
- Recycling points
- Treelines – We have mature trees around the site that we manage already, so we have a longer term vision to gradually replace some of the non-native Sitka Spruce with native varieties.
- Reed bed – Fenced off to exclude livestock access and allow growth of the reeds. We are hoping to attract species such as Reed Bunting to nest here.
- Resource use reducing carbon footprint – Solar panels and electric car charging points
We have also planted new hedgerows with native species, to help increase wildlife productivity on the holiday park.
- Hazel – Provides shelter and a food source for Red Squirrels. Ullswater is a rare stronghold for Red Squirrels with a healthy population we are trying to protect.
- Crab Apple – Planted in existing gaps in the hedgerow and is a source of Blossom in the Spring which helps pollinator species, but also provides a food source for birds and mammals.
- Holly – An evergreen species offering year round habitat but also fruits for birds such as Blackbirds, Thrushes and Fieldfares etc to eat over winter
